History
KATX Eastland celebrated 25 years as an FM Broadcast Station in 2013. This was a vision of the original owner and CEO Dan Staggs when he took over former KERC 1590 AM in the 1980s. The license for 97.7 FM was established in January of 1985 and launched immediately–playing Top 40 Country with a mix of traditional country, local news, sports, community events, and the long-running Bargain Box.
Local is the key word for our new vision, but the biggest change is that, since 2012, KATX is home of the CLASSIC HITS from the 60s, 70s, 80s and beyond. Since the switch in format, listenership has increased 95 percent!
